To be a Christian Nation, means to do more then give preference to Christian practices. It means that a society must work to conduct itself according to the teachings of Jesus. If people are hungry we would feed them, if naked we cloth them. If you have two coats and your brother had none give him one of yours. It would mean that we would forgive our enemies and do unto others as we want done to us. If people are sick we would do all we can to see them healed. Like the good Samaritan if we found someone suffering we would take our time and resources to see them cared for. Because everyone is our neighbor regardless of what ethnic group they come from. Jesus never forced anyone to believe in him, he presented his message and loved those who became his followers and those who did not. He was kind, he was compassionate, he did not care what people thought of him when the unlovable rejects of society loved him.
All of these practices are expected of us as individual followers of Jesus (like it or not) and therefore as a community which calls itself Christian. If the church would make the effort to work toward a society founded upon the teaching of Jesus our culture and therefore our nation would be on its way to being a Christian nation. Not because someone prayed before a football game, but because people acted upon the teachings of Jesus. For many people who call themselves Christian, this would be opposite of what they expect or want from their country. They have the right to that point of view, but the fact is those are the teachings of Jesus. He said it best when he asked, "So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?" How can we call him God if we do not believe his teachings are acceptable ways to live in society? If everyone who called themselves Christian started following the teachings of Jesus, loving people, showing mercy to people, calling for compassion and forgiveness, imagine the impact it would have. Or just imagine the impact it would have if the people who refuse to do any of those things stop calling themselves Christians.
Do you want to live in a Christian nation? Start supporting things that are in agreement with the teachings of Jesus. Start living your life according to the teachings of Jesus and encouraging, not demanding others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world.
:) think about it.
